Assistant Controller (GENERAL)

We are looking for an experienced Assistant Controller to join our team!  The Assistant Controller reports to the Controller and Director of Finance and supports the creation of accurate and timely financial statements including review and preparation of accounting transactions, journal entry processing and financial reporting.

Responsibilities and Duties

  • Assists Finance team with quarterly and annual reporting (TSX Venture Exchange)
  • Assists with preparation of monthly internal and quarterly external financial statements and draft MD&A
  • Assists with preparation of lead sheets and working papers and assist external auditors for quarterly reviews and year-end audit
  • Assists Controller with the supervision and review of accounts payable and accounts receivable processes
  • Assists Controller with the review of payroll, revenue recognition, and cost allocation entries
  • Assists Director of Finance with preparation of quarterly board package including internal financial reports and accounting issue summaries
  • Reviews bank deposits and monthly bank reconciliations
  • Preparation of other month-end adjusting journal entries
  • Assists the Director of Finance with preparation of corporate T2 tax returns and Notice to Readers for all corporate entities
  • Additional duties and special projects as requested
  • Ensure Statistics Canada surveys are completed on a timely basis

Qualifications and Skills

  • Accounting Designation; CPA 
  • Strong knowledge of International Financial Reporting Standards
  • Proficiency with MS Excel (Pivot Tables, VLOOKUP, etc…)
  • Experience with corporate tax return filings is an asset
  • Ideal for a newly certified CPA with 3-4 years of public practice experience or industry equivalent
  • Professional written and verbal communication and strong interpersonal skills
  • Ability to research and report on relevant accounting issues and/or changes
  • Ability to work with tight time frames while simultaneously managing several projects
  • Ability to analyze financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections
  • Develops new initiatives and workflows to improve processes
  • Encourages open communication between the team and other departments
  • Previous experience using SAGE Intacct software is an asset
